MAC 110 – College Algebra

3.0 Credits

This course develops the students’ understanding of mathematical methods and further explores the application of Algebra to Healthcare. It introduces the student to data analysis.

ENC llO- English Composition I

3.0 Credits

This course will teach the students skills in analyzing the rhetoric of prose passages in composing & writing essays in various rhetorical modes, with a strong emphasis on expository, analytical, and argumentative writing as well as personal and reflective writing. Research methods and library skills will be introduced, and a documented paper is required.

COM 220 – Communications

3.0 Credits

This course introduces the concepts of communication and the importance of communication skills in their professional and personal lives.

CHM 103 – Chemistry for Health Related Sciences

3.0 Credits

This course examines basic chemical actions within the body. This includes atoms, masses, PH, energy, amino acids, enzyme function, metabolism/catabolism, and genetic actions. The nature of immunity is also examined.

PSY l 10 -General Psychology I

3.0 Credits

A broad overview of the general field and fundamental principles of psychology is provided in this course. All topics offer application of information to real-life settings, as well as a better understanding of the individual as a learner.

MCB 200 – Microbiology

3.5 Credits

This course examines the microscopic structures within the body. Microbes, Fungi, and Viruses are studied with their uses and actions in the body and are discussed. Microbes are correlated to diseases within the human body.

HCC lOO – Health Science Core

3.0 Credits

This course includes the introduction of basic concepts and skills generic to all health care professionals. It includes an orientation to school, program, study and test-taking skills, the health care delivery systems, communication skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, wellness and diseases, safety and security, emergency situations, computer literacy, and medical terminology, knowledge of bloodborne diseases including HIV/AIDS. Infection control Provider CPR (BLS), first aid, monitoring and recording vital signs, and domestic violence, are  presented

BSC 293C – Anatomy Physiology I

3.5 Credits

An introduction to the structure and functions of the human body is provided. Topics include chemistry, histology, and study of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. A grade of C or higher is required for this course to be used as a General Education course.

BSC 294C – Anatomy & Physiology II

3.5 Credits

A continuation of A&P I, the circulatory, endocrine, digestive, excretory, respiratory, and reproductive systems of the body are studied. A grade of C or higher is required for this course to be used as a General Education course.

SOC llO – Sociology I

3.0 Credits

This course reviews definitions of sociology then explore the social systems of the family and the community. It further examines religious beliefs and cultural norms both globally and locally.

NURl 14 – Pharmacology

3.0 Credit

This course provides an intensive review of mathematics operations involving fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Units and measures in apothecaries, metric, and household systems are also discussed with a major emphasis upon application for the calculation of both oral and parenteral drug dosages.

DIE 220- Nutrition for a Healthy Lifestyle

1.0 Credit

This course examines nutrition principles across the life span. Nutrients are grouped and classified. The implications of nutrition in America is also discussed and related to illnesses.

NUR121-Medical-Surgical Nursing I

4.0 Credits

This course orientates the student to health care with an emphasis on the profession of Nursing from a global, national and local perspective. It includes the focus of Nursing, history of Nursing, scope of the Registered Nurse, Ethics, legal aspects of Nursing, client rights and responsibilities in Health Care, Personal Health & Hygiene, and Communication. It also encompasses the area of role definition; providing/managing care of individuals and groups utilizing goal attainment to reach an optimum state of health and wellness. This course will enable students to develop confidence and self-esteem. Grooming and deportment are essential parts of development, life skills, and personal presentation. It also covers the importance of volunteerism and community service.

NUR 121L -Medical-Surgical Nursing I Clinical

4.0 Credits

This Clinical accompanies NUR1211. This course describes the development of the student in areas of basic nursing skills. It examines alternative, complementary, and holistic approaches to patient care. It also examines the profession of nursing, ethical issues, nursing, process, models of care, caring in healthcare, and the control of infectious diseases.

NUR 121-Medical-Surgical Nursing II

4.0 Credits

Application of the nursing process while providing nursing care for adult and elderly clients with common medical conditions. Study and care of the surgical patient from admission through discharge from the hospital.

The clinical accompanies NUR1212. Application of the nursing process while providing nursing care for adult and elderly clients with common medical conditions; study and care of the surgical patient from admission through discharge from the hospital.

NUR 150 – NCLEX I

1.0 Credit

Pre-Requisites: BSC293C, BSC294C, MCB200, CHM103, DIE220, NURl 14, NURl 15, NURl 16, NUR121, NUR121C, NUR122, NUR122C

This course engages students in NCLEX strategies and reviews of concepts required for licensure examination and entry into the practice of professional nursing. Includes review of the application process of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) test plan, assessment of knowledge in Medical-Surgical Nursing, determine if any deficits exist and remediate. Students in this course must take a final assessment in the aforementioned modality and pass with 85% to pass the course.

NUR 252- Psychiatric Nursing

3.0 Credits

This course studies mental health and illness with a focus on therapeutic communication skills, chemical substance abuse, depression, anxiety and personality disorders, and social/cultural norms are discussed in relation to mental illnesses.

NUR 252L – Psychiatric Nursing Clinical

1.0 Credits

This Clinical accompanies NUR2520. Students will apply the theory learned to a clinical setting. The essential features of this clinical experience are professionalism, skills and competency development, the scope of practice for psychiatric nursing, professional communication skills, and therapeutic use of self.

NUR 242 – Maternal-Newborn Nursing

3.0 Credits

This course introduces the student to the care of the OB and Newborn Patient. The student studies normal and abnormal psychological and Physiological changes which occur during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and neo natal period.

NUR 242L- Maternal-Newborn Nursing Clinical

2.0 Credits

The Clinical accompanies NUR2420. This course will allow the student to integrate theory into practice with an emphasis on the care of the Parent/Child in Hospital Units and Community Settings.

NUR 231 – Pediatric Nursing

3.0 Credits

This course is designed to provide an understanding of growth and development through the stages of childhood and the application of the nursing process.

NUR 231L – Pediatric Nursing Clinical

2.0 Credits

This Clinical accompanies NUR2310. This Clinical focuses on maintenance, and the prevention of illness, care of the pediatric client, and deviations from the normal state of health. The definition of client care includes performing assessments and providing client/family education. Topics include health maintenance and prevention of illness; care of the individual as a whole; and deviations from the normal state of health in the pediatric client; client care, treatments, pharmacology, medication administration, and diet therapy related to care, and standard precautions. In addition, nursing procedures/techniques, and diet therapy, will be the center/focus of learning.

NUR 271- Management and Leadership in Nursing

3.0 Credits

The course explores management and leadership theories and the application of them to Nursing. Participants will examine organizational behaviors, and develop conflict resolution, collaboration, planning, and decision-making skills. In addition, this course will cover the role and definition of a nurse preceptor and introduce learning styles and teaching methods and explore assessment and evaluation of self as a preceptor and the student.

NUR 271L – Management and Leadership in Nursing Clinical

1.0 Credits

The Clinical accompanies NUR2718. This Clinical will allow the student to apply management and leadership skills in the hospital setting. The students will examine organizational behaviors, and develop conflict resolution, planning, and decision-making skills. The students will also apply knowledge obtained to gain experience as nurse preceptors.

NUR 273 – Graduate Transition

1.0 Credits

This course is designed to assist the student to transition from student to assuming the role of the Registered Nurse. Consideration of licensure, legal aspects of nursing, professional organizations, trends in nursing and health care, and ethics and biomedical ethical concerns. This course also includes a complete review and NCLEX-RN preparation. This course will also prepare the student to enter the workforce.

NUR 280 – NCLEX II
