Program Description
Students of the Health Services Administration Bachelor Degree program study in an online setting, learning key areas of healthcare administration and related technology, law, and leadership roles, and tasks needed for success in the field. Students also learn business rules and how they apply to medical settings, ethics and client service roles, revenue cycles, medical coding, and insurance billing.

Health services administration focuses on the management in a healthcare setting. It’s planning, directing, and coordinating medical and health services for organizations and businesses. Health services administrators need a broad background in business skills and specialized knowledge. They handle behind-the-scenes necessities responsible for the efficient running of entire healthcare facilities, departments, or clinical areas. To effectively manage a healthcare facility, they must know the healthcare system, policy, and business management.

They may work closely with physicians and surgeons, registered nurses, medical and clinical laboratory technologists, technicians, and other healthcare workers. They work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, nursing and residential care facilities, and government and outpatient care centers.
According to the BLS.gov website, “The median annual wage for medical and health services managers was $101,340 in May 2021. The median wage is when half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount, and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $60,780, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $205,620.”

The job outlook for Health services administration is projected to grow 32 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations.
