Credit System

Definition of Credit
The credit system utilized at MOISE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE is the semester
credit. A semester is defined as 16 weeks. Each semester is followed by a one-week recess. An
academic year is defined as two semesters or 34 weeks including breaks.
The credit hour unit is defined as follows:
• One-semester credit equals 15 contact hours of theory
• One-semester credit equals 30 contact hours of laboratory
• One-semester credit equals 45 contact hours of externship experience
The contact hour is defined as 50 minutes of educational instruction and 10 minutes of recess.
The clock hour is defined as 50 minutes of educational instruction and 10 minutes of recess.

Transfer of Credit

MOISE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE will consider credits from other institutions.
Any applicant or student who seeks to have credits considered must-have transcripts delivered to
the office of the Dean of Distance Education for evaluation. The team will evaluate the transcript
and make a written determination about any credits considered for transfer.
This determination will be made within seven calendar days of receipt of the transcript.

MOISE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE will consider the value of credit against its own courses to
ensure appropriate credit for a credit award.

Students attending MOISE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE will earn semester credits at the
institution; however, if they choose to transfer credits to another institution, the award of credit
is determined solely by the receiving institution. In either case, there is no guarantee that credit
will be transferred.

Students who present evidence of successful completion of relevant CLEP, COLLEGE NETWORK, or DANTES
testing in specific subject matters pertaining to general studies may be granted credit as
recommended by ACE (American Council on Education).

Experiential Learning/ Prior Learning Credit

Applicants may present professional credentials and evidence of extensive work experience relevant
to the program of training they are choosing to pursue. The Dean and Chancellor will determine
credit for prior learning, or experiential learning is verifiably documented by the applicant. Such
consideration will be granted up to 15 credits depending on the level of experience, credentials, and licenses earned and in the number of areas in which substantial experience directly applies.

In essence, credit for experiential learning will be granted if MOISE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE
can determine:

• The prior learning is equivalent to the level of learning in which the student is enrolling.

• The prior learning is demonstrated to provide a balance between theory and practice for academic
programs. For courses or programs requiring a combination of theory and skills, the prior learning
is demonstrated to provide the appropriate combination.

• The credit awarded for the prior learning directly relates to the student’s course or program and
is applied in satisfaction of some of the credential requirements.
